Videographers try to capture the moment. Their goal is to tell a story through what’s happening and give a positive feeling to it. They have to follow the subjects and operate their cameras at the same time. However, there are often things not as they like. For example, bad lighting, people walking through each other’s frame, missing the moment, standing on the wrong side and having wrong camera settings. Communication now often goes through gestures and small meetups during the event. However, these require time, focus and sometimes are too late. What they want to communicate differs per camera operator. But they have many things in common: position, if you are filming, where you are going and if everything is okay. This all while trying to capture all the highlights of the event.
That’s why I worked on a concept where videographers can know how all other camera operators at a live event are filming. COFIAS makes it audible where a camera starts and stops recording, which camera it is and if there there are more cameras recording. I have made this sound sketch to demonstrate the concept in practice. All the sounds are recorded and mixed by me for this final exercise for the course. The course helped me to get a basic understanding of the creation of sound design and helped me understand the value of more senses in a design.
